Research Focus

The MaMMELab employs molecular genetic markers and analytical tools to study various aspects of marine mammal ecology, behavior and evolution. Some of the questions driving our research are:

  • How are populations connected over space and time?

  • What are species-levels of genetic diversity and what does it mean in the context of their survival and long-term evolutionary trajectories?

  • Which are male and female reproductive strategies?

  • Can we detect the molecular underpinnings of their key adaptations?

These questions and many more, drive our curiosity!

Inclusion & Diversity

Everyone in our lab/Department believes in building an inclusive and diverse research environment. MAMMEL has helped develop and contributes to formal programs aiming to increase opportunities for traditionally under-represented students in marine mammal science.
